What it is

Vexa's Gambit is a tower defense that hands you the level design tools. On every map you draw the maze yourself, carving the path invaders must take, then place towers built from six elements — and when you fuse two elements, you unlock from a pool of 15 hybrid tower types. The demon princess's army comes at you in 60 waves, across both a campaign and a puzzle mode where terrain hazards shape the defense. Maze-drawing plus element fusion is a strong combination: the tower you place matters, but the route you force matters more. It's a free browser game from a solo developer who credits AI tools in the build, and we indexed it on release day. Tower defense veterans will recognize the lineage — maze-building TDs have always rewarded players who treat the path itself as a weapon — but the element fusion layer changes the texture of the decisions. In a standard TD your build question is *which* towers to place; here it's also *which towers can exist at all*, because the fusion pool only opens when you commit two elements to each other. That turns every map into a two-layer puzzle: draw a route that serves the towers you plan to fuse, then build the fusions that serve the route you drew.

How to play

Build phase: drag walls to extend the invaders' path, then spend your resources on element towers along the route. Fusion is the core decision — two basic elements combine into a hybrid tower with its own behavior, so your first real choice is which fusion lines to commit to. Defense phase: run the wave, watch where your route leaks, and rebuild before the next push. The campaign carries you through maps of increasing shape; puzzle mode gives you fixed terrain puzzles to solve around. Each map follows the same satisfying arc. The opening draw is pure geometry — the longest, twistiest route you can defend. The middle game is commitment: choosing which element pairs to fuse as resources allow, and upgrading along those lines instead of scattering. The late waves are triage — watching where the 60-wave pressure finally bends your route, and trading build-phase changes for survival. Campaign maps escalate the shape of that problem; puzzle mode hands you a fixed board and asks you to solve it cleanly.
